Introduction
Second largest city of Rajasthan – Jodhpur – looks simply amazing when you view it from the ramparts of the fort, perched on the hilltop. Places to Visit in Jodhpur
» Mehrangarh Fort : Rightfully meaning 'Majestic Fort', Mehrangarh Fort is situated just in the middle of the city atop a 125 m hill. Some of the spectacular palaces including Moti Mahal, Phool Mahal, Sheesh Mahal, Sileh Khana and Daulat Khana are enclosed within its 36 m high and 21 wide ramparts.
» Jaswant Thada : You can have a look at the white marbled cenopath of Maharaja Jaswant Singh II. This aesthetically carved edifice looks like a temple and has a rare collection of artifacts.
» Umaid Bhawan Palace : The dream home of Maharaja Umaid Singh was designed by Henry Vaughan Lanchester, the President of the British Royal Institute of Architects. This 347 roomed marvel in red Chittar sandstone is supposed to be the largest private mansion in the world.
» Mandore : This erstwhile capital of Marwar before Jodhpur has countless number of cenotaphs of Rathore rulers. You will love to explore the rugged caves, lush gardens, gurgling fountains here.


Some Excursions
Osian, 65 km, is a famous hub of ornate Brahmanical (16) and Jain temples. Sardar Samand Lake (55 km) is a wildlife centre homing herds of black bucks. Ajmer (211 km), Bikaner (243 km) and Jaisalmer (298 km) are some other nearby tourist destinations.


How to Reach Jodhpur
Jodhpur Airport is just 5 km from the city centre, which has daily fights to major airports of North and West India. Main rail heads of Jodhpur - City and Rai-ka-Bagh - are outside the walled city. You can access the city from any major rail head of the country as a number of long route express trains operate to and from Jodhpur. Good roads link the city with other city centres of the country. It makes the city easily approachable by road also.
