About Pushkar
Pushkar is a Sanskrit word which means 'Born Due to Flower'. The myth says that this town was founded when a lotus fell from its beak on the Earth. The place where it fell is known as Pushkar. Pushkar is situated 14 km from Ajmer, is included in the major pilgrimage centres of Hindus, giving it the title of 'Tirth Raj' (king of pilgrimages). Major travel attractions of Pushkar include Pushkar Lake, The Ghats, Brahma Temple and Pushkar Camel Fair. It emerged as a prime travel attraction for the foreigners recently. Pushkar Travel Attractions
� Pushkar Fair : Thousands of Hindu devotees gather around Pushkar Lake to take the holy dip on one full moon day of October- November or Kartik Purnima, according to Hindu calender. Pushkar Fair is also held during this auspicious time of the year, which is famous for it's Camel trading and other traditional celebrations. The fair is celebrated over a period of seven days.
� Brahma Temple : One interesting fact regarding Brahma Temple at Pushkar is the popular perception about it as the only Brahma Temple in India. But recent studies prove that it's not true. There are at least four other temples of Brahma in India including this one at Pushkar. Others are located in in M.P. and Kerala. But the temple at Pushkar is undoubtedly regarded the most revered and popular one among them. Myth says that Brahma personally choose Pushkar as one of his seats.
� The Temples : Although a large number of temples at Pushkar were destroyed by Aurangazeb, a Mughal Emperor; some of the rare temples in India are found here including Brahma Temple mentioned above. One of the rare temple is dedicated to Brahma is one of the highlights of the town.
� The Ghats : Pilgrims travel all the way to Pushkar to take bath in the lake's holy water. The tourists willing to join them are advised to follow specific instructions while doing so.


Excursions nearby Pushkar
Kuchaman FortThe magnificent Kuchaman Fort located nearby is a worthy excursion which also houses Meera Mahal, the palace of legendary poetess Meera Bai. Kishangarh is famous for the miniature paintings. Roopengarh Fort, built by Maharaja Roop Singh of Kishangarh in 1648, is worth visiting due to its medieval stone graneries, royal armories, jails and battlements. Holy city of Ajmer is also very near (14 km) Pushkar.


How to Reach Pushkar
You can reach Jaipur Airport by air which is linked with almost all the major airports of the country. Ajmer, 11 km, is the nearest railway station where long route express trains ply regularly. If you are traveling by road, it would be convenient for you to pick a bus or hire a cab from Jaipur as the buses are available after every 15 minutes.
